CAIT estimates 2026 festival trade at over ₹50,000 crore, up from ₹30,000 crore in 2024 and ₹30,000 to 40,000 crore in 2025. Maharashtra accounts for roughly ₹20,000 crore and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region about ₹11,000 crore, spread across idols, pandals, food, flowers, music, travel, sponsorship and media. Mumbai licensed 2,702 sarvajanik pandals this year from 4,164 applications. Lalbaugcha Raja collected ₹1.37 crore, ₹3.18 crore and ₹3.1 crore on days two, three and five, with 1.12 kg of gold and 19.75 kg of silver on day five alone. The longest day one darshan queue ran 15 hours and 5 km, managed by 6,000 volunteers and over 100 CCTV cameras. A single Matunga mandal spends ₹10 lakh on flowers over 12 days, using 250 kg per decoration. Risk cover has scaled with the crowds. GSB’s 2026 insurance stands at ₹703.27 crore, up 48%, and most of its 2025 cover protected volunteers, cooks and priests rather than ornaments. Dagdusheth, Lalbaugcha Raja and Andhericha Raja carry ₹50 crore, ₹25.5 crore and ₹23.5 crore respectively. The supply chain starts in Pen, whose karkhanas make 30 to 35 lakh idols a year, employ about 2 lakh workers, turn over about ₹600 crore, draw ₹400 crore in bank credit and export around 15,000 idols. On quick commerce, flower orders peaked at 868 a minute on 14/09/2026, mawa modak orders rose 145%, clay idol demand 176% and Delhi’s eco-idol orders 1,718%. At home, wholesale milk moved from ₹93 to ₹102 a litre, sugar hit ₹60 to 75 a kg and a modest 5 to 7 day celebration costs ₹6,000 to 21,000 or more. MSRTC ran 5,741 extra buses to the Konkan, Pune’s 170 dhol-tasha pathaks fielded 15,000 players, and BMC sent 98% of 2025 immersions, 1.84 lakh idols, to artificial ponds.
